Antique fruit bowl with handle, Elkington & Co, Birmingham, 1895, silver-plated with all hallmarks

Elkington, the inventors of silver-plating, were and remain synonymous with the highest quality silver-plated items. This bowl for fruit (with traces of gilding still visible on the inside) can be dated to 1895 based on the hallmarks on the base. Elkington & Co. was a purveyor to the British Royal Family, as well as to the royal houses of Spain and Italy; Elkington also produced the cutlery for the luxury class of the Titanic.
Condition: Good condition with age-related patina and signs of wear. One impact mark on the upper rim (see photo).
